Burger Basement Kensington does some good burgers, in a great little spot. The double patties were well-laden with cheese and bacon, but the flavours overall where kept pleasantly simple, making it a meat lovers dream.

We were worried the double stack might be a bit too much, and while it’s definitely a filling burger, again they managed to do this without creating a monstrous burger that makes you feel full before you’ve even taken a bite. They stacked it well, keeping the pineapple on top, allowing the salad at the bottom of the burger to stay crispy and fresh. The juicy pineapple gave the burger a nice sweetness. It has lots of things I love on a burger: bacon, pineapple, cheese… yet it wasn’t super overwhelming. The gems have a really good crunch to them – even topped with the cheese – and there’s plenty to share.

The potato gems look great too, with tons of ‘too cheesy’ sauce. I was pleased with the consistency across the two stores too. They’re the easiest burgers to eat in all of Melbourne I think. Even the larger burgers aren’t overwhelming with things falling off. They always look so perfect with the ingredients painstakingly stacked on top of each other. Inside there’s seating for about 20 people, but I can imagine being so close to the station they do a healthy takeaway trade too. It’s a little smaller and more casual than their original store in Pascoe Vale and the decor is more roadside burger joint with a striking red and white theme.
